1. I dont have access to a pool. How do I follow the WaterWOD?

Not having access to a pool is only a minor set-back and will not preclude you from following the WaterWOD. Whenever possible, we post alternatives to workouts traditionally completed in a swimming pool. Many of the top Athletes following the WaterWOD swim in open water, taking the workout to lakes, the ocean, rivers and streams. Join a health club with a pool, use your neighbors, sneak into the local college or high-school – whatever amount of creativity it takes, try your best to follow the WaterWOD each week.

2. I don’t know how to swim!

You are the perfect candidate for the WaterWOD. Throw yourself into the workouts heart and soul. Although your swimming technique might not be pretty or efficient, do your best to complete the required posted distance any way you can. We know of several Athletes who swim while wearing a lifejacket. The most important thing you can do to improve your ability to swim is to – swim! Finally, seek out qualified swimming and water safety instructors. Swimming confidence and comfort in the water is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself or another person.

3. I live in the middle of the desert. How do I perform the weekend water adventures?

Our heart goes out to those people not living near a body of water. Although you will be able to perform the swimming and combined dryland – swimming workouts, it will certainly be a challenge to participate in our posted water adventures such as surfing and paddleboarding. In this case, we recommend vacationing at costal locations and cramming as much water adventure into your time off as possible. Check out the WODCation for your yearly dose of ocean fun!

4. Will swimming increase my capacity in strictly dryland workouts?

Absolutely. Swimming is a brilliant way to learn and appreciate efficient and effective breathing. Swimming rewards technique and reinforces principles of alignment, posture and agility.

5. Is the WaterWOD safe for all Athletes?

Weather you are a novice swimmer or Olympic freestyler, we strongly recommend you always complete the WaterWOD under the supervision of a lifeguard or another Athlete. This is especially true when participating in underwater swimming workouts.
